At the top of the Rue de Bourgogne, in the upper part of the village, we find ourselves in the Burgundian quarter occupied by the representatives of the "Hôpital de Mormant" (located to the north of Leffonds), responsible for developing their portion of the Burgundian seigneury of Marac. Several very old houses dating back to the time when the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem occupied Mormant can still be seen, right up to the corner of the Rue de Bourgogne and the Rue Neuve, where their tithe barn was once located, but which disappeared at the very beginning of the 19th century.
Below this site, you can still see the façade of the house known as "du Prieur" (which was in fact the house of the steward of Mormant in charge of the estate), with its bracketed lintel decorated with the I.H.S (Iesus Homi-num Salvator) and the A.M (Ave Maria), inscribed in relief in circles of reservation, which frame an empty niche, burnt down by the very virulent revolutionaries of Marac (and whose Virgin would have been sold a few decades ago to an antique dealer of Langres).
