Day 1
The most beautiful fortified town in France
Langres boasts the largest fortified town wall in Europe. Take a stroll along the rampart walk. Lined with gates and towers, it will take you through 5 centuries of history.
In the old town, a maze of narrow streets and covered passageways takes you past ancient monuments, medieval plots, Renaissance hotels and religious buildings.
When you reach the square Jeanne Mance, look up: you're at the foot of Saint-Mammès cathedral. For 800 years, it has embodied the power of the bishops of Langres.
Things to do at sunset
If your hotel is in the city centre, head to the western rampart. Bathed in the light of sunset, a stunning panorama of the countryside and the city walls awaits you there.
Day 2
The secrets of a city of art and history
Go and discover the other treasures of Langres. At the Maison des Lumières, admire an original copy of the encyclopaedia. You're in Diderot's birthplace!
At the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, admire the Bacchus mosaic, one of the finest pieces in this art and archaeology collection.
Why not have lunch by the water? From the terrace of the lakeside restaurants, you can enjoy refined cuisine and a lovely view of the Lac de la Liez.
