La Boisserie
In the intimacy of the De Gaulle family
It was here, in this former brasserie transformed into a family home, that the man of 18 June retired to think and write.
The first floor is still occupied by the family, and the rest of the house remains as Yvonne de Gaulle left it when she left in 1978.
In the rooms open to visitors — the dining room, living room, library — you step into the private world of General de Gaulle and his family.
Surprised by the exotic touch? The visit is dotted with the personal gifts he received throughout his career!
Charles De Gaulle
General and Leader of Free France, first President of the Fifth Republic
"Whenever possible, we go to our house at La Boisserie. There, to think, I retreat [...] Looking at the horizon of the earth or the immensity of the sky, I restore my serenity."

The Cross of Lorraine
Symbol of Free France
Look up!
At 44.30 metres high, the Cross of Lorraine dominates the landscape of Haute-Marne.
It was built in 1972 on the highest point of the village of Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, in accordance with the wishes of General de Gaulle.
To finance this symbol of Free France, a national and international fund-raising campaign was launched.
It raised the 7 million francs needed to purchase the blocks of pink granite from Brittany and the bronze plaques that make up the edifice in tribute to the General.
