The result of a partnership between the Langres Heritage Department and the Unité Départementale de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine (UDAP), this 16-stop tour evokes the profound urban transformations that took place in the city during the Renaissance.
In the 16th century, a profound movement of artistic renewal was underway throughout France. Following in the footsteps of King François I and his court, the fashion was to reinterpret Antiquity. Civil, religious and military architecture underwent profound changes to reflect the taste of the time. In Langres, the urban landscape was tinged with Renaissance buildings, while the fortifications underwent numerous adaptations that are still largely in place today.
Using reconstructions provided by the UDAP, archive documents and visuals to evoke elements that are inaccessible or have disappeared, this tour takes visitors on a journey through the 16th-century environment of Langres.
