The hut stands at the foot of a venerable pedunculate oak, marked by the vicissitudes of time. Halfway up the slope, flanked by a temporary spring, it overlooks a stream that leaves the forest to live for a while in the meadow and then flows into the Germainelle stream. The stream and the small marsh where it flows form a place frequented by wild animals that come to quench their thirst or take a mud bath. The name of the hut was therefore very apt: a "gouillet" is a damp, even muddy, place where people wade.
The hut is built from simple materials that have not been travelled hundreds of kilometres or required a great deal of energy to produce and use. Sand from the Germaines quarries, local limestone, sawdust from the Arbot sawmill and wood from the Auberive forest and surrounding area (Douglas fir, alder and acacia) did the trick! Composed of dry stone walls and wooden shingles, the innovation of this hut lies in the use of corded wood walls (wooden logs masoned with a mixture of sand, sawdust and lime). As the hut is in a chilly valley, we opted for the 'high comfort' option, with doors, windows and even a wood-burning stove. Outside fires are not permitted.
It is freely accessible (from the Bay to Germaines road, from the wood storage area) and, of course, you have to look around a bit to find it...
Fires are strictly forbidden around the cabins.
