Telling the story of Dommarien isn't easy... it's a small village like so many others in Haute-Marne, or in France for that matter, but there's only one Dommarien in France. And like most villages in France, it has its own history and everyday life that give it its charm.
Its name appears in 1101 in the chronicle of BEZE (Côte d'Or), and is said to come from the Latin "DOMNUS MARINUS" (the seafaring lord). Was it a traveller who came to settle here?
The village lies at the foot of a hill, facing south-west, 4 km from Prauthoy and 23 km from Langres. The river VINGEANNE runs alongside it for 4 km. The canal follows the river and sometimes overhangs it, as at the bridge-canal at Bize l'Assaut, built from magnificent ashlar...
