The first of the two washhouses, this one is located on the banks of the Vingeanne, to the right of the bridge leading to the village. On 21 June 1826, a royal decree authorised the creation of iron ore laundries installed at the lower mill (patouillets). They were used to separate the iron ore from the earth. The ore came from Dommarien and the Auberive region. The muddy water from the patouillets was initially discharged into the river, but following protests from the inhabitants of the villages downstream, who used it to water their livestock, the water was then channelled into lost wells. There was no mention of patouillets from 1860 onwards.
Today, all the water from the Vingeanne disappears into the ground just outside the village. These holes, known as andouzoirs, seem to correspond to the old lost wells of the patouillets. Research has failed to prove, as some claim, that the water reappears at the Creux Janin in Cusey.
