In the centre of the village, the museum welcomes you to admire the sculptures and statues that have been found.
The remains of the Gallo-Roman mausoleum at Faverolles provide exceptional archaeological evidence. At the beginning of the Empire (1st century), a Lingon of high social standing had a sumptuous tomb built on his country estate, on the edge of a Roman road coming from Langres, over 25 metres high. The remarkable sculptures discovered during archaeological excavations are displayed around a large scale model in the museum workshop in the heart of the village. The decorations are full of funerary symbolism: high-relief depicting a hunting scene; life-size lions; marine centaurs with human busts and fish tails; funerary masks belonging to the Bacchic procession: Bacchus, Menadus, Silenus; bas-relief of weapons, columns, capitals, cornices with modillions and caissons... All this decoration was intended to enhance the deceased and affirm his victory over death.
