La rue des gardes des bois de l'abbaye d'Auberive

La rue des gardes des bois de l'abbaye d'Auberive

Like the "Rue des fermiers", which runs alongside it, the "Rue des gardes des bois de l'abbaye" was once the road to Langres. The lower houses on the left were rebuilt at the end of the 18th century by the abbey's last commendatory abbot. He housed the forest guards of the abbey estate here. The whole, which is still very coherent, is remarkably well preserved in its original state. The later right-hand side of the street was built in the mid-19th century. The second house (currently a hairdressing salon) was used as a boys' school for several decades, before being transferred with the girls' school to the current town hall-school buildings.
