Auberive Abbey employed lay-workers for agricultural work, who were housed in low, single-storey houses built in plain stone at the end of the 18th century. Today, they can be seen in their original state, beneath recent alterations, some of which are still covered with round tiles with a prominent lug. This type of tile, known as a "tige de botte", is a very rare type that has remained unchanged since the 12th century. Opposite these dwellings were built spacious barns, some of which were converted into accommodation in the 19th century, the first of which (on the central square side) was converted into a Maison du Pays in 1994.
