Peigney has been known to be inhabited since 909, making it one of the oldest inhabited centres in the region. It is a new village on the lands of the bishop of Langres, created at the entrance to a valley that rises below the church, around a spring that was rediscovered at the end of the 1980s and is now a fountain...
The village of Peigney, like all those bordering the town of Langres, was once renowned for its cheeses, which were eaten fresh or used to make "Langres cheeses" after maturing (now A.O.P.) and sold at the Langres fairs and markets. This reputation was celebrated in one of the verses of a famous Langrois Christmas song in patois, composed by Father Claude Dechasse, prior of the Langres Dominicans, when he served the parish between 1745 and 1748...
