The village of Charmes-lès-Langres nestles on the banks of the Val-de-Gris stream (also known as the Poiseul stream), at the foot of the earthen dam known as the "Charmes dam". The village is bordered to the north by the Plateau de Movange (446m), dominated by the statue of the Virgin Mary, which is a pleasant place for local residents to take a stroll, to the east by the Fort de Dampierre (499m), to the west by the Fort de Saint-Menge, and to the south by the town of Langres and its ring of ramparts. Whichever way you come from, you don't "go up to Charmes", but you do go down, following a micro-relief that should not be overlooked if you want to walk or cycle there...
