On his death on 9 November 1970, General de Gaulle was buried in the Colombey les Deux-Églises cemetery. He remains there with his wife, Yvonne, who died in November 1979, and his daughter Anne, who died at the age of 20 (1948). The simplicity and sobriety desired by the General are represented by this simple white tombstone, with no plaques or flowers. The grave is guarded throughout the day by a student gendarme, an honour reserved for the leader of the Free French Forces and founder of the Fifth Republic. Next to it is the grave of his son-in-law, General de Boissieu, and opposite is the vault reserved for his son, Admiral de Gaulle.
Free admission.
