Although flints from the Neolithic period, a Gallo-Roman necropolis and scattered traces of settlements have been found on the plateau and in the Bonnelle valley, it was the cult of the relics of the Twin Saints, which came from Cappadocia and led to the construction of an oratory and then a basilica, that gave rise to the village.
