An accessible nature trail between forest, heritage and viewpoints:
From the centre of the village of Saint-Loup-sur-Aujon, take the whole family on a lovely 10km walk (approx. 2h30) combining history, nature and tranquillity. The route begins by passing the charming "Lucien Carteret" wash-house, then climbs gently towards the woods of "La Montagne". On the higher ground, the path skirts the edge of the forest, offering lovely views over the Aujon valley. It passes beneath the old Saint-Loup geodesic signal, a discreet but intriguing vestige of a little-known scientific past. The descent to the hamlet of Ériseul and then into the combe de la Masselotte adds a touch of freshness to the walk. On the way back, the route winds through farmland, hedgerows and undergrowth. It's an easy walk that will delight young and old alike, with its curiosity for nature and local history. After your walk, head for the convent of Saint-Loup. This community of nuns from every continent occupies this site, and not without sharing. Although dedicated to a contemplative life, the nuns are very welcoming, and the convent garden is always open to walkers.
