A complete itinerary combining forest, heritage and sustained effort:
Starting in Prez-sous-Lafauche, this 14.5km loop takes you on a varied and demanding route, combining medieval heritage and unspoilt nature. From the very first kilometre, the ascent to the ruins of the Lafauche fortress sets the tone: steep gradients, technical terrain and breathtaking views. The route continues along a succession of forest paths, wooded stretches and deep valleys, demanding attention and stamina. The green/yellow signposts guide you to the old fortified farmhouse at Lavaux, then through the woods on the sentier des Brebis, dotted with natural curiosities such as the remarkable oak tree and Germain Estienne's cross. The diversity of soils and environments (steep ascent, valley floor, woodland edge, white path) makes this loop a stimulating challenge. Allow around 4 hours on foot to get the most out of this rugged immersion in the history and landscapes of southern Haute-Marne.
Leaving from Lafauche, the loop allows you to set off on a 10 km walk and halve the difference in altitude (to 125 m).
