This tower is part of the 14th-century enclosure protecting the southern quarters of the town. It was originally equipped with three superimposed rooms with embrasures to defend the base of the fortifications. During the renovation of the ramparts in the mid-19th century, this structure was completely transformed. The rooms were filled in and the facing completely rebuilt. Until this time, a covered gallery protected the walkway and the lookouts from the elements; it was gradually dismantled between 1814 and 1847.
