Part of the first ring of 13th-century ramparts, it is the only vestige of the Porte de la Voie de l'Eau, which in the Middle Ages marked the south-western entrance to the town. The Tour d'Arse housed the town's arsenal and once stood opposite another tower that no longer exists. A dry moat and a portcullis completed the defensive system. No longer of military importance, it was converted into a bakery before being acquired by the town of Chaumont, which restored it. Inside, you can see a superb wooden framework crowning the building.
