A bucolic village garden and orchard nestles on the banks of the Aujon, in the heart of the village.
The riverbank is deliberately left natural to encourage insects and their environment.
The old oil mill canal runs through the gardens.
It is crossed by culverts in one direction and then the other. In the past, this canal also supplied the many tanneries in Châteauvillain.
A hide-cleaning pit and its mechanism for feeding the canal and discharging it into the river can still be seen on the site.
These orchards offer beautiful, original and picturesque views of the church and the tiled roofs, especially at sunset.
