PONT DIT ROMAIN DE POULANGY

This bridge crosses the River Traire. It was built in Roman style in 1776 to replace an earlier structure that had fallen into disrepair. The architect, François Mauperrin, was inspired by the Rolampont bridge, built twelve years earlier by Claude-Nicolas Ledoux. Unlike Ledoux's Rolampont bridge, the Poulange bridge has a humpbacked deck and is made up of three arches of equal dimensions, with triangular forebays and quadrangular hindbays. It was restored between 1836 and 1840 by the architect Charles-Sylvestre Topin. The bridge retained its eight bollards, but lost its paving. It was listed as a historic monument by decree on 13 May 1996.
