This rosary pump is accompanied by a drinking trough that was once used for cattle. In 1899, Boucheseiche, the village mayor, studied the possibility of equipping Varennes with rosary pumps. One of these was tested on a communal well in the church square. In response to positive feedback from residents, who appreciated the ease of use and efficiency of these devices, the local council decided to order five new pumps in 1902. Placed in wells in five different squares in the village, they provided many services to the population. Other pumps, of the "Morin-gra" or "Nordas" make, were later added. Most of them are still in place.
