On the village war memorial:
Plaque in memory of Sergeant Emil Moravek, Czech pilot in the first squadron of GC I/5 - SPA67. This pilot was killed when his H-75, No. 57, crashed due to engine problems. On 15 June 1940, as part of a patrol, his flight was prolonged due to intense Luftwaffe activity. 4 aircraft ran out of fuel at Til-Châtel and the 5th in a field. Moravek landed in a field near the village of Heuilley-le-Grand. Looking for inhabitants, he came across a gatekeeper and villagers from Corlée, who were on the move. Despite the language barrier, they help him to put back some petrol from the village cheesemaker's stash. Moravek takes off again, after shaking hands with his rescuers. The plane gained altitude, but its engine misfired and it suddenly dropped like a dead leaf. Moravek was found dead in his H-75. The Germans then arrived in the area and locked it down. It took 12 days for the body to be extracted from the remains of the aircraft and buried in the cemetery at Heuilley Le Grand. After the war, the remains were moved to the Czech cemetery at La Targette in northern France, where this plaque was unveiled on 20 October 2007.
