Pelouses et landes des Bruyères

Pelouses et landes des Bruyères

The Bruyères grasslands and heaths, located to the south of the Mouche reservoir, occupy an exceptional position on the horizontal surface of a limestone plateau covered with thick silt. Thanks to the originality of some of their flora, which is similar to that of acidic heathland, they rank among the fifteen most interesting grasslands in Haute-Marne and are one of the last examples of callune heathland. Nearby are former wash-houses that have been recolonised by vegetation that is better adapted to drought and limestone soils.

For nature lovers :
Vegetation :
The heather grasslands are short lawns, rich in orchids and plants adapted to drought, often of southern origin, some of which are in danger of disappearing as a result of numerous clearings, including thyme broomrape, heterophyllous ptychotis, small dodder, serviceberry in the thermophilous thickets and narrow-leaved centranthe in the old wash pits. These five species are on the red list of plants in Champagne-Ardenne. The entomofauna, and more particularly the Orthoptera, is rich and diverse (11 different species of locusts and grasshoppers, three of which are on the regional red list of insects), with the same biogeographical tonality as some of the flora.

The site is frequented by a number of birds (more than twenty). This site, which is still in good condition and very representative, also has a definite landscape interest.
