The Cusey ZNIEFF is located on a steep slope overlooking the Vingeanne valley. It consists mainly of xerothermophilous dry grassland, a reservoir of rare or endangered plants in the region: 9 species are on the red list of plant species in Champagne-Ardenne and two are nationally protected. The fauna is also very interesting: insects include seven species on the regional red list (including two butterflies); the green lizard, of southern origin and protected in France, is found here at the edge of its range, as well as a rich and diverse bird fauna. A particular geomorphological feature of the site is the existence of a beautiful resurgence of the Vingeanne river at the foot of the slope. The ZNIEFF is leased and managed by the Conservatoire du Patrimoine Naturel de Champagne-Ardenne: a resumption of grazing is envisaged in the future.
