The Mourie Grasslands and Wood ZNIEFF is located to the west of Chassigny on a steep hillock linked to the great Chassigny fault (a remarkable geological phenomenon). The grasslands and groups of slopes are located on the south-facing slope and are mainly grazed.
For nature lovers :
The forest vegetation is typical, including a beautiful maple grove with scolopendre, a dry oak grove-charmaie (particularly towards the cliff of Trou des Fées and towards the Fontaine aux Ermites).
Vegetation:
A number of rare or threatened plant species can be found on the site: red minuartia, at the northern limit of its distribution here, reclining fumana, of southern origin, alyssum and Apennine helianthemum, all on the red list of plants in Champagne-Ardenne, elderberry, etc.
Fauna:
The green lizard frequents the grassland (it is close to the northern limit of its distribution here), it is protected in France (since 1993) and in Europe (Bern Convention), it is on the regional red list of reptiles as a vulnerable species. A particular cricket with bright red wings that is extremely rare in Champagne-Ardenne is present on the site: the German oedipod, included on the regional red list of sensitive insects.
