For nature lovers:
Its exposure and the nature of the very compact limestone make it the driest grassland in the département (Xerobromion, Alysso-Sedion, Potentillion caulescentis and Mesobromion); its vegetation is similar to that of the Burgundy grasslands further south, with the site forming the northern boundary of the southern influences that can be observed in the Rhône-Saône corridor.

Vegetation:
There are nine rare species on the regional red list of plants, two of which are protected at national level in the case of the field gage and at regional level in the case of the houndstooth andropogon, a southern species that now only survives in Champagne-Ardenne in a few grasslands in the south of Haute-Marne: saxifrage carnation (a small carnation native to the southern Jura mountains and the Alps, and the only locality in Champagne), fasciculated minuartia (at the limit of its range), umbellifrage, alfalfa-grass, Apennine helianthemum, etc.

Fauna:
The entomofauna displays the same biogeographical tonality as the vegetation mentioned above. Nine species are rare or endangered in Champagne-Ardenne and are therefore included on the regional red list of insects, including singing locusts (Omocestus viridulus, Chorthippus vagans), coloured locusts (blue oedipod), the Italian cricket, grasshoppers (Platycleis albopunctata, Metrioptera brachyptera) and various butterflies (Pyrgus setorius, Brenthis ino, Hipparchia alcyone). The green lizard, of southern origin, has been protected in France since 1993 and is on the red list of reptiles in Champagne-Ardenne. This limestone cliff, covered with short grass, is in a good state of conservation and is of prime landscape interest.
