Founded in 1905 by a group of friends, the Société amicale des pêcheurs à la ligne (anglers' society) has adopted the stickleback (Gasterosterus aculeatus) as its emblem, a valiant little fish that defends its nest, rather like the city of Langres with its ramparts.
With 1,300 members, the association created a beautiful banner that was presented to the people of Langres at numerous events, in particular during the parade of canes in bloom in the streets of the town. This magnificent achievement has been passed on from generation to generation by what has become the Langres stickleback association, an approved body for fishing and the protection of the aquatic environment.
Since then, fishing, fishermen and the preservation of the aquatic environment have been a constant preoccupation, and thanks to the Langres town council, l'épinoche now has greater and more effective operating resources, particularly in the area of youth training. Fishing courses are run during the school holidays in conjunction with the Langres town council's youth department.
With the help of the Pays de Langres Tourist Office, the Internet has become an essential tool for informing the many French and European anglers who visit our lakes every year.
