Le Pas de Gargantua (Gargantua's Step) is a legend that says that the giant, overcome by a natural need, used the basin at the bottom of which the village is hidden, resting one of his feet on Montoille and the other on Mont Saule, a few kilometres further on. Pas de Gargantua" is the name given to a boulder (1.25 m x 1.20 m) that barely emerges from the earth at the top of Montoille. A few years ago, this step was very well known to the locals, who are gradually losing sight of it.
You can make out the deep imprint of a toe (12 cm), a sole (23 cm deep) and a heel (27 cm), with a total length of 40 cm (the width varies from 20 cm to 13 cm). The foot would be oriented West (heel) - East.
However, this is not an ancient stone. This imprint is simply a "game of nature" that turns out to be a bed of Bathonian limestone: cracked rocks, pierced stones with curious shapes.
