A picturesque walk to discover the masterpieces of Ernest Chaumeton, a rockworker in 1900.

With its waterfall and ponds, fishery, apiary and orchard garden, the grounds of the Domaine de Lavaux, designed around a 17th- and 19th-century residence, are typical of the Jardin Pittoresque period.

It features a remarkable collection of decorative structures in reinforced cement mortar that give the illusion of wood or rock. They were created between 1908 and 1912 by rockworker Ernest Chaumeton, a native of the Creuse region who won a silver medal in his speciality at the 1900 Universal Exhibition.

Caves, kennels, piers, footbridges, bridges, duck blinds and tree trunks are all remarkable trompe l'oeil creations, imitating wood, bark, branches or stone.

Situated in the heart of an agricultural and forestry estate, the Domaine de Lavaux park pays tribute to the taste of an era at the crossroads of romanticism and technical innovation.

Listed as a Historic Monument, it is the richest private testimony to the art of rockwork in eastern France and the living memory of an estate organised in complete autonomy.

In the old orchard, visitors will also discover some remarkable trellised fruit trees, planted at the beginning of the last century and passionately tended by the Croqueurs de pommes des Trois Provinces association.
