Oratoire Saint-Ferreol-et-Saint-Ferjeux de La Rochelle

The oratory was erected by the villagers in gratitude for the respect they showed the village (no damage, no casualties) after the 1870 war, which was started by the powers that be during the 2nd Empire (Napoleon III).
The following inscription is engraved on the stone: "Tribute of gratitude from the inhabitants of La Rochelle for the protection that St Ferréol and St Ferjeux deigned to grant them during the years 1870 - 1871".

With regard to the Saints : Saint Ferréol and Saint Ferjeux are two brothers who lived in Besançon (Doubs) at the beginning of the 3rd century; they were later declared martyrs by the Roman Catholic Church.
