Les Silos houses a media library in the heart of the station district of Chaumont in Haute-Marne. The name is a reminder that the building was originally an agricultural cooperative, typical of the architecture of the 1930s. A renovation project in 1994 preserved the old grain hoppers that run right through the floors, revealing a glass building with an impressive appearance, both inside and out. In 2011, the building was awarded the "20th Century Heritage" label by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication.
Les Silos offers a wide and coherent range of multimedia documents, a games library and free-access video games on 4 levels. The multimedia library offers a wide range of coherent services and is open to the public 30 hours a week. It also has a prestigious collection of manuscripts and incunabula, as well as a wide range of old documents.
Les Silos also plays a part in local cultural life by developing a wide range of regular cultural events, including the Salon du Livre de Chaumont. They are also involved in educational activities alongside institutional partners.
