The Belvau Marsh ZNIEFF covers a narrow valley on the Langres Plateau and the base of the north-facing slope at the edge of the hardwood forest that surrounds it. A beautiful undisturbed forest marsh, one of the most typical in Haute-Marne, forms the main vegetation of the area.

For nature lovers :
Vegetation :
Covered by dense marsh vegetation, locally invaded by borage, it has a wide variety of plant groups. Its edge is made up of a willow grove and a fringe of aspen and willow. The vegetation is highly characteristic and well-adapted to the particular conditions of the tufa marshes: around thirty species can be found here, including one protected species at national level, the choin ferrugineux, and four in Champagne-Ardenne.

Fauna:
The fauna contains a wealth of remarkable species, including dragonflies such as the Agrion de Mercure, which is protected nationally and at European level (Bern Convention and Habitat Directive) and is on the red list of vulnerable animal species in France, the Cordulégastre bidenté, a mountain species that is rare throughout France, and the Cordulégastre annelé, both of which are on the red list of Odonata in Champagne-Ardenne. The Belvau marsh is one of the best preserved and most scenic marshes in the area.
