During the last three centuries of the Ancien Régime, some of the most remarkable stone houses in the village were home to prominent Langres families (Turquet, Le Vacher, De Rombuisson, Frémyot, Mauparty, Varney, Calmelet, Fourel, Péchin-d'Autebois, Argenton, Danicourt, De Marivetz, de Saint-Germain, etc.), who ran their businesses there. It was thanks to the many fairs that took place in the village that these wealthy families (re)built the beautiful, rich homes that can still be admired today.
To the north of Place des Halles, at the top of the lane (no. 7), you can see a typical early 17th-century house with a "gable on the street", featuring a kitchen (identified by the spout of the sink) and upstairs living rooms, which can be seen behind an original triple mullioned window. Note the symmetry of the openings on both levels, the cellar stairway (redesigned) under the ground floor outbuildings, and the elegant lintel above the door with its motto cartouche, which remains untouched.
