Situated on the northern outskirts of Doulevant-le-Château in the direction of Dommartin-le-Saint-Père, this attractive building, sometimes referred to as "the château", was built before 1825 to the designs of the Parisian architect Alexandre Dufour, architect at Versailles and collaborator of the capital's great architects such as Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine. Built at the request of Jean-Nicolas Berthelin (1756-1837) or his son Louis, ironmasters in the 18th and early 19th centuries, this large bourgeois building was visited by King Charles X and the Duchess of Angoulême in 1825.
The château adjoined a partially preserved U-shaped farmhouse with a dovecote. It was surrounded by a vast English-style park with winding paths.
