The "Maison Parmain" stood on this site and was bought by the elected representatives in December 1846 for 2,100 francs, then demolished to build a modern town hall and school. It was built at the end of 1847 by Mr Baillet, a mason from Musseau, to the plans of the architect Gaullet fils, for 4,830 francs. Note the two cast-iron directional signs on the façade, which were recently restored by the "Vals des Tilles Patrimoine" association. Created in 1835 by the authorities, these "coachman's signs" were painted in white letters on a madder-blue background, and were placed everywhere at a height of 2.50 m so that they could be easily seen by the coachmen, hence their name.
