The Forêts National Nature Park

Protecting the deciduous forests of the plains, France's 11th national park officially came into being on the borders of Burgundy and Champagne on Thursday 7 November, according to a decree published in the Journal officiel. The park, the idea for which originated during the Grenelle Environment Forum in 2007, is the first dedicated to forests in France.

The "national forest park" covers a maximum area of almost 250,000 hectares: a 3,100-hectare integral reserve where the forest is left to evolve freely, a 56,000-hectare "heartland" where specific rules will apply, and an "accession area" which shares the vision of the project without the rules of the heartland applying.

Vast deciduous forests, springs and rivers, unspoilt landscapes, economic activities closely linked to local resources... These features are the major assets of the area and underpin its character.

The guided tour

This tour takes you to the small village of Dancevoir, crossed by the Aube and Aubette rivers and surrounded by forests, on the border between the Haute-Marne and Côte d'Or departments, in the heart of the National Forest Park.

During this visit, we'll be looking to discover the many faces of the forest, shaped by man, animals and trees, of course, but also by geology and the weather. We'll set off to discover a multi-faceted forest with astonishing biodiversity and landscapes!
