These Baltard-style covered market halls are typical of the period: the use of a new material, cast iron, allowed for long spans and the construction of vast, largely glazed buildings. This building stands on the site of a former corn market, itself built on the site of Saint-Michel church (1500-1800). Saint-Michel church was 31 m long and had three naves. Nearby were the first cemetery and the Hôtel-Dieu, the town's first hospital, demolished in 1765. During the French Revolution, the church was used as a prisoner shelter and then as a military storehouse. In 1800, the government handed it over to the town, which completely demolished it.

Visible from the street, you can go inside on Saturday mornings during the market.
