On all occasions, and especially on the roads, the representation of the sun seems appropriate. On fine days, it seems to guarantee a happy ending to a journey; on gloomy ones, it's a bright reminder of what warms the heart. The sun has so often been represented schematically that any circle emanating from the rays on its periphery immediately becomes its image. A simplistic image, because in fact astronomers have observed that the monstrous star that sustains us projects certain gigantic flames at constant locations, but in intermittent pulses of varying strength....
