After a long slumber caused by the phylloxera crisis at the end of the 19th century, the vineyards of the Sud Haut Marnais have been rising from the ashes since the late 1980s thanks to the efforts of a handful of local men and women.
Today, they're bringing their wines, their roots... and part of their history back to life.
Spread over 14 hectares, the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Auxerrois and Gamay grape varieties are grown in four communes in the southern Haut Marnais. The entire vineyard has been organically farmed since 2023.
The estate employs five people to cultivate the vines (recently committed to converting to organic farming) and produce and age almost 130,000 bottles a year.
This vineyard continues to win recognition and awards from the Hachette Guide to French Wines and the Concours Général Agricole in Paris.
Since its revival, the Order of the Knights of the Montsaugeonnais has been meeting to feast during the Saint-Vincent Tournante in Vaux-sous-Aubigny, Rivière-les-Fosses, Chatoillenot and Montsaugeon.
