LE LAVOIR DE VOILLECOMTE

LE LAVOIR DE VOILLECOMTE

The Voillecomte washhouse is located in the western part of the village. Known as the café des bavardes, it was considered to be the local gazette. Dating from the 19th century, its timber-framed construction is typical of the architecture of Champagne villages, giving it the appearance of a small barn. Its roof frame is covered with canal tiles. A few steps down, the rectangular paved pool is fed by the Héronne, which flows through the village. The ashlar benches along the walls were used as shelves for clean linen and the washerwomen's belongings.
