The roof, supported by sturdy timbers set on stone corbels, and the walls, open only on the street side, enabled the washerwomen to work sheltered from the sun, bad weather and draughts, during the great washings or "buées".| The water always gushes out through a wide stone chute. It flows slowly through the large, narrow washing basin, brushing against the beautiful sloping ashlars, before continuing on its way... |As you enter the washhouse, you'll notice the bench at the back on the left-hand side, where heavily laden baskets used to be placed. Simple yet robust, this washhouse bears witness to the daily life of Vivey in the 19th century. This charming wash-house was completely renovated by the local council in the early 1990s.
