Situated on Rue Haute, opposite the town hall and adjoining a community hall, the Luzy washhouse is distinguished by its elegant moulded arches and its internal fountain. This complex gave pride of place to water, a symbol of life and purity, and was once a meeting place, almost a public square.
Inside, a step leads down to the large, shallow basin, edged with stones held together by clamps, with a rinsing trough attached to it. Set back from this, the fountain pours its water into a basin shaped like a holy water font. One can imagine the washerwomen kneeling in their wash tubs, exchanging village news. An inscription painted on the outer cornice recalls the respect held for purifying water.
Maintenance work was carried out in 1860, and the washhouse was restored in 1993.
