Lavoir de Fresnoy-en-Bassigny

Lavoir de Fresnoy-en-Bassigny

This fine stone structure features a fountain on the left, from which water gushes out of a lion's mouth into four successive troughs for cattle. The fountain is set against the retaining wall, with its back to the church. It takes the form of a small structure framed by pilasters and capitals, topped by an imposing lintel. Beside it stands a wash-house, enclosed on three sides. On the street side, two small stone pillars rest on a low wall to support the roof. The old stone paving has been preserved on the ground. The fountain, set against the surrounding wall of the former cemetery, has been listed as a Historic Monument since 30 September 1942.
