The apothecary, formerly the Joinville hospital pharmacy, houses over 230 jars and utensils from the 18th and 19th centuries. Come and discover the remedies of yesteryear, some of them quite surprising!

It is located on the grounds of the Hôpital Sainte-Croix in Joinville. This hospice was founded in 1567 by Antoinette de Bourbon, widow of Claude de Lorraine, first Duke of Guise and Lord of Joinville.

Originally, the hospice was designed to receive sick and poor subjects. From 1772, the sisters of the Order of Saint-Charles, under the authority of a mother superior, replaced the mistresses and servants who had previously served there.

The Joinville apothecary is part of the European network of Hôtels-Dieu and Apothecaries.

The apothecary is only open for guided tours, from April to October, by prior arrangement with the Tourist Office/Château du Grand Jardin.
