L'ancienne maison des notaires de Cohons

L'ancienne maison des notaires de Cohons

Just before the monumental gateway to the former notary's house at no. 5, note the 16th - 17th century gable on the street, featuring an arched barn entrance and a dormer window typical of the period.|From the street, the inner courtyard can be seen through the gateway, where the entrances to the wine press, barn and stable are visible on the right. Overlooking the courtyard at the far end, which is an extension of these outbuildings, is a stone terrace with a private built-in fountain, forming the living quarters, which also served as a notary's office in the past.|This house formerly belonged to several notaries, the last of whom, François Chareton, a well-known royal notary, before it passed to Jean-Louis Jourdheuil. It has remained in the same family ever since.
