L'ancienne cure de Champigny-les-Langres

L'ancienne cure de Champigny-les-Langres

The former vicarage, also known as the fortified house (because of its defensive features), was built in the 17th century. The inscription 1608 appears on the right jamb of the entrance door. This date refers to the reconstruction of the building as we know it today. During the Revolution, the parish church was declared a "national asset" and sold to the first mayor of Champigny-lès-Langres, Edouard Grépinet. On 11 fructidor of the year X, following the desire to install a parish priest for the two villages of Champigny-lès-Langres and Peigney and the sale of the private owner at the time, the house became the presbytery of the two communes, each of which purchased half the building for a total sum of 5,525 francs.|It was only on 19 December 1864 that the sale was agreed by the commune of Peigney to that of Champigny-lès-Langres, on condition that half of the building would continue to be used as a presbytery.
