Among the many properties owned by the Diderot family, several were located in Chassigny. Fields, meadows and vines, as well as a house with a wine press in which the Diderots vinified their harvest. Held jointly by the three children on the death of Didier Diderot, the father, it was later given in full ownership to Denis, who sold it almost immediately. The Diderot family seems to have very old ties to Chassigny. In fact, a document found at the Langres town hall mentions that in 1411, the municipality reimbursed 7 pieces of wood to a Mr. Diderot who lived in Chassigny.
