The village of Doulevant-le-Château has had a forge since the 14th century. Acquired in 1783 by Jean-Nicolas Berthelin (1756-1837), it was developed by his descendants. Opposite the town house, along the D60 to the north of the village, it benefited from the course of the River Blaise and was supplied with local ore and wood. A second blast furnace was built in 1838. Several buildings have survived, including a hall and workers' accommodation, which can only be seen from the street.
