This is the source of the Ceffondet which, after flowing a few leagues, joins the Voire at Montier-en-Der. This spring, located in a solitary and wild place, far from all the villages, was once surrounded by dwellings dating back to ancient times; the area occupied by these ancient buildings, now included either in the forest of Blinfey or in the land outside its boundaries, is still partly recognisable by undulations in the ground that betray ancient foundations and ruins. These dwellings bore the name of Ceffonds, as did the spring that has survived them, and some of the surrounding places still bear the same name. The long, deep valley in which they were situated, stretching from the territory of Arricourt, where it originated, to its confluence with that of Rizaucourt, is called the Ceffonds valley; a piece of land belonging to Blinfey is called "les champs de Ceffonds", and the small valley that descends from this field through the woods towards the fountain is called the Vallon de Ceffonds.
