La Boutique

La Boutique

In this alleyway, on the left, we can see a typical blacksmith's and cutler's house from the late 19th century.
At the back, the garden is much longer than it is wide. It provided a significant proportion of the vegetables needed to feed the family.
At the back is the knifemaker's workshop. To get the maximum amount of light, it faces south. It has large bay windows behind which the workbench is positioned.

In a corner, there was usually a space reserved for the forge, marked by the presence of a fireplace. This workshop is known as "the shop". However, it was not a sales area, but the place where the craftsman worked. Sometimes the workshop was located in the living room of the house.
